Introduction

There are many ways to cultivate deeper insight and understanding. Most of these can be categorized under two basic approaches. The first is to diminish or get past mental programming which limits or distorts your thinking. That means recognizing and effectively dealing with thought patterns that come from ego identification, cultural conditioning, fear and biases originating from a variety of sources. The less your mind is affected by these typically unseen forces, the more able you are to think clearly and to freely explore all possibilities. That approach has been addressed in my book Beyond Mental Slavery.

The Thousand Mile Hole is about the second approach, which is to actively use your mind in specific ways in order to gain insight, to discover new ideas and to otherwise look at the world more deeply.
